And here at our coop, we definetely have some new life.
In 4-H, we sometimes go to schools or the local fairgrounds for "farm days". At these farm days, we teach children about chickens. (Of course there are many other animals, like horses, rabbits, sheep, even bees.) About two weeks ago we participated in one of these. Every year someone brings a small brooder full of baby chicks, and then at the end of the day they raffle them away in pairs. So, my sister and I each grabbed a ticket and waited. What happened? You guessed it: we each won two baby chicks. I heard that they were Rhode Island Red/ White Leghorn crosses, so that's what I'll call them.
Today we went to the local Co-op for some feed, and what would we find but two huge troughs of chicks. I couldn't resist. We bought 12 chicks of these breeds: 2 Silver-laced Wyandottes, 3 Black Astralorps, 4 Americaunas, and 3 Golden Sex Links.
I've made a very short movie-slideshow to hopefully show all of the breeds.

Oh are'nt they just gorgeous.
Things are rather different over your way than here in OZ.
You can't even go to a pet store to find troughs of chicks to ohhh and ahhh over.
Our little chicks are now looking like big chooks...Not laying yet though
You are SO lucky to have enough room for a few more chickens! Sadly, we are currently living in a large town so we can't buy all those fuzzy chicks at the feed store! Maybe someday.
P.S. We have a Salmon Faverolle from Murray McMurray, too!
Yes, we are very lucky!! I thought that this year woul turn out pretty much chick-less. But three hatched here, 4 won there, and 12 bought, we've ended up with quite a few sweet babies.
And having almost 8 acres really helps. For a while we've been letting our chickens roam out and about, and of course of ALL the 8 acres they choose right next to the house and on the back porch to hang out and poop. But now that we're putting them up, they're much better and easier. ;)
P.S.(Amri)-- We only got one last year- I wish we had more!! They are so pretty and sweet, and now she's setting!! Maybe even MORE chicks on the way!!!!
Spring is the time for new life! We just found a duckling on our lawn! It was pretty funny, really, the cute baby (QuackStar) just came over to us and sat on my arm! We always wanted a few ducks.
We think he/she's a Mallard or a Rouen.
Where are you, Chickengirl? I miss you!
